Nothing in life is meant to be easy the first time you do it. Learning to walk as a baby, you fall countless times and recovery is just the same. No one gets angry, upset or laughs at a baby falling but applauds them for trying and that's how we should treat ourselves. Getting out there and recovering is just like learning to walk again and finding your feet isn't always easy. You're doing amazingly for trying, when everything in you feels like you can't.
At first I would say "you're fine" and "you can do this" and after trying over and over nothing will ever be as bad as it seems. But those few times it might be as bad, don't deter because you're a strong and there is hope for better - because you deserve better.

I still get anxious every time but now I say "there's no reason to be afraid" and try my best to believe it. It's a process but every journey starts with one step. Whatever comes your way you can handle it, just like you have handled all the struggles so far - that experience will only make you stronger not weaker.
Being exhausted (as we tend to get with chronic illness) I don't know about you but I start losing some logic because my brain's so exhausted it's hardly working. So be aware that when you're exhausted and feel shitty don't get carried away with your thoughts. Acknowledge them and simply let them pass. You're tired and don't have to deal with all your worries right then and there.
How prediction and thinking ahead can hurt us...
In life we have preconceived ideas of what people are like, how a day will turn out or what we will do in an emergency. But as I'm sure you're all aware, nothing ever goes quite as planned. Nothing I've ever dreamt or expected is exactly as it's happened and one things I've learnt is to just take life as it comes.
Don't form an idea or think too far ahead. By doing this we often limit ourselves by not being open or 'mentally prepared' for new ideas or plans.
Life is unexpected, unpredictable and unanticipated by opening myself up to this it's allowed me to see more beauty in the world and take on more opportunities.

So make the most of today, take a leap. Have some hope and faith. Because it is one day or day one.

ReplyDeleteThinking too far ahead is something that definitely leads to me losing opportunities and missing out on experiences. It leads to more overthinking and anxiety. I want to start focusing on living in the moment and not thinking about the future so early.

DeleteThis is such a good post! It's easy to get caught up in the worries and what ifs sometimes, it's good to take a step back and remind ourselves we have no reason to fear or worry, but not always easy to do in the thick of it.

Taking it easy and living in the moment. Over thinking and thinking too far ahead will definitely make one depress and cause anxiety. I was at this place last year and learnt from it. Great post here!!

DeleteThe part about planning what to do in an emergency... Oh my gosh. That is my worst habit. Always planning out ridiculous scenarios in my head of everything that could possibly go wrong and what I would do.... And what a waste of time!

DeleteIt's so important to not get carried away in our thoughts when thinking negatively about things that *could* happen in the future - I've been working so hard on this and finally can now sort of catch myself doing that and saying "okay... that hasn't even happened... so stop dwelling on it!"

DeleteThis is a great post Susie! I'm so guilty of overthinking, and projecting into the future. Between thinking about the future, and the past too, I hardly ever spend time in the NOW! And that's where happiness lies... in the present moment. It's a work in progress to try and stay 'in the now'. But we'll get there! :)
